Pororoca casts an inquisitive look upon the Amazon. The magazine’s subject is the real and diverse world hidden behind an
image that is usually indistinct. It is about the Amazon’s rivers, holes, islands, trees, palm trees, fruit, animals, people, towns, cultures. But it is also about
its popular manifestations and projections originated from views of the region’s greatest artists, such as photographer Luiz Braga; voices who offer
intriguing standings about the Amazon’s ailments and riches, such as author Milton Hatoum and artist Rubens Matuck, from São Paulo; foods that amaze
anthropologists and cooks, such as the flour and tucupi – that is known in El Bulli, in Barcelona; things we do not expect to see coming from there, such
as the electronic do-it-yourself urban music from Belém; and small solutions that are beginning to be outlined to solve its huge problems, as exemplified
by hard work involved in the Pé de Pincha project,
recovering many
species of turtles from imminent extinction.
